Structured training

Scott and I both missed our first week of IM training since we were in PA finding a house. I also did absolutely no training the previous week since I was in CT, but I think it was good for me to take 2 weeks off. I am a big believer in time off for both physical recovery and mental recharge so it worked out well to travel the 2 weeks before the start of training. Yesterday I spent 50 minutes on the Computrainer with power intervals (5x20s) and today I swam. I thought I was going to dread getting back into the pool with a real workout, but it felt great. The best part was that I only had to swim 1600. In my opinion, this is a great plan if I only have to swim a mile! Elena had a blast in the nursery so I can't use her as an excuse to miss a swim workout. I did buy 4 new suits to make going to the pool a bit more enjoyable. I was kind of embarassed by my old stretched out suit because after having a baby, a chlorine damaged suit is really not flattering to certain body parts.
Here was my bathing suit selection of today.

I am really glad the off-season is over because I need a list of workouts to keep motivated. Also, there is the issue of reading other triathlete blogs and just being blown away at how much they are running and biking in winter. Having my own plan, which worked for me in the past, and sticking to it really eases my mind and makes me less freaked out about what everyone else is doing. This week, I am scheduled for 8 hours which is actually pretty good for me.

I have that same suit! $19 at swimoutlet.com?

It's good you have a training plan that works for you. I think I'm constantly overtrained but that's what happens when you have an addiction to the sport without a coach to save you from yourself!

Love the suit! One thing I'm looking forward to this season is a reason to do less (Remy) and therefore be less likely to overtrain. I think it helps that I did and accomplished a lot before I got pregnant, so don't feel the same impetus to rush back into things too quickly. I'm sure I'd see things differently if I'd gotten pregnant 3-4 years ago.

I have that suit in the bikini. I thought I would get a sport bikini to wear in the outdoor pool in the summer. It turned out to be a little more risky then intended. When I flip turn or push off the wall, the bottoms fall down. Oh well, I have saved it for my beach trips.
Best of luck with your move,

What a great suit! Doesn't it feel great to start with a plan and train with a purpose? 8 hours your first week back is great.
