Another MRI

I went to the Sports Med doc this morning and he said that the first course of action should be a follow-up MRI to see if my femoral stress fx has healed. It is also possible that I am still experiencing bursitis and if that is the case, a little cortisone shot should help. So no more running until we find out what is going on. The problem is that running doesn't hurt ( I just feel crooked), what hurts me most is biking and vacuuming. Hopefully, the MRI, which is scheduled Monday morning, will be normal and then it will just be an issue of physical therapy to correct my biomechanics. I just want to get to the bottom of this since I have experienced this pain since February.

In other medical news, Elena had an allergic reaction to a food last week. She developed a rash on her face (see pic below) and hives on her arm. Luckily, she didn't have any trouble breathing or I would have totally lost it! We called her pediatrician and they told us to give her 1 tsp children's Benadryl (FYI, have this on hand just in case. I made my Aunt run to the store to get it since I didn't have any) and then scheduled an appt for her a few hours later. They told us that if prior to the appt she has any difficulty breathing, she needs to get to an ER ASAP.
The pediatrician referred us for formal allergy testing and we learned this week from the allergist that she is allergic to walnuts (the culprit food that she put in her mouth while we were cooking), peanuts, pecans, and pistachios. So now we have epi-pens for her and new concerns about leaving her at the YMCA childcare. They don't allow peanuts, but do allow all other nuts. So this means that I will keep her in the baby room to reduce her chance of exposure and be super vigilant each time I leave her and let everyone knows she is allergic and has an epi-pen. Scott is also allergic to peanuts and has experienced two anaphylactic events in the past 5 years so it is definitely a bummer to learn this about Elena.

The good medical news is the mysterious chest pain that Scott used to experience while running had disapeared after the removal of this thyroid cancer. We never would have thought that his cancer would have a silver lining.

What happened during her reaction?? I'm so scared that will happen to us b/c my hubby is allergic to EVERYTHING! Nut allergies are such a pain (or allergies in general, but you never know what nuts are in!)

Hope that PT will solve things...sorry this has been such a long drawn out ordeal!

I just updated my blog with more details about her reaction, along with a pic. The pediatrician was really impressed how well I documented her rash. It actually looked worse in person than it did in the pic.

Sorry to hear that! Scary, for sure.

Ugh. Sorry to hear about Elena's allergy! My nephew is allergic to nuts and it is so hard!! Wouldn't it be great if they came up with a cure for nut allergies?

And looks like somebody now has a 'Get out of vacuuming free' card. ;) Ok, maybe not free..

Oh my gosh!! I'm so happy that she was okay!!

As for you - I totally agree with Michelle. "Pass Go, Collect $ 200, and NO MORE VACUUMING!" :) Also - great about the no-chest-pain-when-running. What a relief!

Glad Elena ended up being okay. That had to be scary. And good luck with the MRI on Monday, I hope you get the results you want. And if it's just bursitis, I was once diagnosed with bursitis in my knee and I have no pain from it now so there is hope.

Scary about the allergies. My daughter had a similar reaction to eggs when she was Elena's age. Fortunately, she grew out of it eventually.

Btw, I had a good deal of residual pain after my stress fracture healed. To the point that I thought it had broken again. It lasted a full year (ugh) but with regular PT and stability exercises, it finally disappeared.

Well, I would say one good thing about the hip pain - no more vacuuming!! Seriously though - hope they figure that out. Glad Scott can run without that mysterious pain too!

I'm sorry to hear about Elena's allergies. That is just one more thing to worry about as a Mom!

Hope the MRI is good news! Keep us updated!

Oh, and vacuuming, what's that? Since I don't have pets, I hardly vacuum. Well, I'm also a terrible housewife.

my daughter is allergic to milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts and sesame seeds. of all the allergies, the nuts ones are the worst hands down...

it's hard...i was in denial for a long time and frustrated for a long time...but it gets easier...she goes to daycare one day a week and it is a nut and egg free centre.

yes, you have to be careful about interaction with other kids and also learn to read food labels. hang in there!

oh no about the nuts!! I've been giving nick all kinds of nuts, we don't have an allergy running in our family (thank god bc I am addicted to nuts)
