Cost per minute

So it has been a few years since I raced triathlon, but I am just blown away at how much a sprint race can cost. I am one of those people that NEEDS to have a race on the calendar so I have been looking at things in the fall. I came across a sprint triathlon (1/4 Mile Swim, 12.5 Mile Bike, 2 Mile Run) that seemed perfect and close to my house, but the price was some serious sticker shock. This race costs $120 plus $10 for the USAT one day license fee. It seems crazy that if Scott and I both did this race it would cost us $260!!! Is it just me, or is this an expensive race? I am admittedly cheap about some things, but this is more money than I am willing to pay for a small sprint.

This reminds me of how Scott used to enjoy the longer events because he felt like they were a better value in terms of $/minutes racing. I don't recall what Scott's price point is in terms of extracting value, but I am sure he has come up with some algorithm for cost per minute.

Holy Moly is that an expensive sprint!!! The one I'm thinking of doing in the fall is only $35! I think I would probably boycott a sprint that expensive!

That is obscene! Setup and Finish Strong sprints around here are $55, which I think has been the price for awhile. One of our favorites, Woodlake, is still just $35.

YIKES. unless they are giving away gold nugget to all finishers... i'd stay away. hopefully they will realize when no one signs up that it is crazy. hope you can find something else to race.

That is insane.

yowsers. I too would steer clear of that one. If the organisers see hat people are willing to pay that price then they'll keep asking for it. By looking for a smaller tri/more homegrown one you are sending a clearer message to those $-hungry race organisers....BTW a Fall Sprint sounds like a fun goal race for this year, I'm glad the running is coming along and you have things to work towards physically (hip flexibility etc)

Agreed. You must boycott that one b/c if people pay that then race directors think they can get away with charging that much. NFW.

that's expensive. The last one I did was $90 for a sprint. Philly olymp was $190. Way expensive. Which one is it? Keep looking!

Yup, it's getting NUTS. I had to laugh, NYC is like $175 for an OLY. It's sold out so you can NOW paid $200 for an entry AND fund raise $3000 minimum.
