Catching up

I feel like I haven't posted in forever; mostly because my free time is pretty limited/nonexistent and also because I have numerous topics floating around my headand it has been hard to settle on one. So here is a list of things going on.

Swimming: I have been swimming about twice a week, which I know isn't a lot, but anything that closely resembles consistency is a major accomplishment. I am slowly becoming fitter in the pool, but I think my major gains have come from technique. The clock says I am faster, along with my very unscientific assessment of beating Scott in a 50 by 4 solid seconds. I have NEVER beaten Scott in the pool before and he was definitely surprised.

The hip: It has been 4 months since I started ART and things still seem to be progressing, even if it is very slowly. I ran 5 miles on Sunday and while I still felt slightly off, I felt totally fine the next day which is a good sign. This injury is just beyond frustrating and all I can say is that if I am every back to 100% and racing, I will probably live in fear for a very long time that this might happen again.

Sleep: There are glimmers of hope that I will some day get a decent night's sleep. Two nights last week, Adelaide slept from 9pm to 3am and it was amazing to wake up and feel rested. Unfortunately, she didn't keep this up and is once again waking up every 2 hrs. And Elena is doing better this week and is sleeping until 6am. I am sure to most of you this sounds early, but compared to 4:45am or 5am, this is late!

Energy: Even though I am working out just a few hours a week, my body isn't always thrilled with burning calories and I end up being insanely hungry. I think my body is concerned about some impending famine because it insists on keeping about 10 lbs of body fat in reserve. It is definitely annoying to not be back to my pre-pregnancy weight, but I am sure that once I stop breastfeeding it will come right off (or that is what I keep telling myself).

New furniture: Has anyone else had their living room furniture destroyed by potty training? Since our furniture was about 5 years old and with our 4 dogs it doesn't last long, it was time to buy something new. This time around we decided on leather in hopes that it will last beyond Adelaide being potty trained.

Check out Adelaide sitting all by herself! And she also had her first haircut; we needed to trim her bangs since they were in her eyes.

Wow Rebecca, great work on the training efforts - beating Scott in the pool AND running 5 miles?? Would you have thought you could do that a year ago? That is awesome progress, though obviously it'd be nice if the "progress" hurried itself along :) Adelaide is beautiful, love the hair. Just speculating but I'm sure losing sleep doesn't help with weight retention (cortisol effects and all that), but I'm sure like you say your body will just fall back into shape once this period of motherhood ends..have a great week!
